I love a lot of things. Here’s a list of some of them:
The revealing of a secret room, area, or section of a place you’re at that you didn’t know was there
Pizza
A joke that’s just okay and then someone commenting immediately afterward on why that joke was just okay
A massage where you get a real sense that someone is an expert at it, they’re feeling the exact area that’s tense, and they’re asking you questions like, “Do you sit a lot for work?”
Tandem kayaking
Standing up on a paddle board
Lady Gaga’s absolute laser-focused dedication to the art of music and performance
Paying for a world-class meal and then seeing how they execute—what do they specifically think makes it worth an objectively overpriced experience
The sense of urgency
That moment of realization when I understand how a specific thing I’m claiming to hate or not want is actually, unconsciously, the exact thing I love or want desperately
Mechanical keyboards
Buttons in general that have a good press feel
Talking in front of a group of people
Explaining something to someone
The feeling you get in the moment after you shared something with someone that they enjoyed—YES, nailed it, I knew they’d like this
Monologuing
Scenes in movies where someone is about to give a prepared speech and they rip up the paper and then give an off-the-cuff speech that’s even better
Pressing a button that makes a beep sound
Wraps
Tacos
Remembering a key insight you had a while back and thinking “oh, right, it’s that thing again,” almost as though you first recognized that it was a powerful insight but you continue to realize how you haven’t fully applied it into your life yet
Tasting an espresso that’s better than average, such that you go “oh, this is good”
Drinking an espresso at 2pm and then immediately taking a 20-minute power nap
Doing a workout that’s in the sweet spot of tough but something you can come back to the next day
Having dinner with friends
Listening to two other people talk and make each other laugh, and I’m just there thinking to myself, “fuck this is the point of life”
Someone making a face that says, “you fucking kidding me?”
An unknown actor coming out of nowhere and being incredible
Watching an actor I love do a movie that’s critically and commercially successful
Watching live comedy
Picking an outfit out for a concert
Going to said concert
Dimmable lighting
Warm lighting
Candles that smell like you’re in the woods
Hearty matches
Hearty Q-tips
Listening to music slightly too loud, especially in the shower and car
Watching someone who isn’t good at karaoke do karaoke and, in real-time, watch them let lose, have fun, and overcome their fear of being in front of people
Having stuff be more powerful than I need it to be, like, I want my sound system to be able to go louder than I need—if I put it on max volume and it’s loud enough, then it’s not loud enough
Sending voice memos
Small end/side tables that hold a drink or two only
A crowded room where you can still hear yourself and hold a conversation
Dancing
Finding the right sound effect
Looking up things to do in a new place I’m visiting
Putting things in my calendar
I guess that’s it for now.
